Green secret; Schoonoord Park

Green secret;  Schoonoord Park

Don’t tell anybody, but there’s a serenely quiet piece of nature in Rotterdam. And it’s hidden right in the heart of the city. It is situated in the Scheepsvaart Kwartier district, which, all things considered, is by far the prettiest neighbourhood of the city, and used to be home to some of the wealthiest families of Rotterdam (among them Van Beuning and Mees). Once a private garden to the Mees family, Schoonoord Park is now open to the public. Its current form is a design by Jan David Zocher from 1860. Some trees in the park are over 250 years old (the Lebanon Cedars)… Sit down on one of the many benches, let yourself be submerged by times gone by, and listen to the urban silence of this beautiful spot. Need we say more?
