The best things in life are free; take a stroll.

On a lazy sunday, when I want to avoid the crowd, I walk with my dog along the Heemraadssingel. A unique north-south artery in Rotterdam. Connecting Blijdorp to the Maas River, this long green boulevard offers a pleasant path for walking or biking. On both sides of the street you’ll find old late 19th century buildings alongside a parc in the middle of the lane with benches, green pockets, playgrounds, a skate park and little squares. Walking from north to south you cross Heemraadsplein. A beautiful square were often cultural events, flea and farmer markets are organized. During the summer neighbors organise the summer event Singeldingen (www.singeldingen.nl) and turn the parc into one large backyard with coffee, sandwiches and barbecues. During winter, at the end of the year, on the crossing of Heemraadssingel and Vierambachtstraat you buy the best ‘Oliebollen’ (fried doughnut-like balls) of the Netherlands at Richard Visser.
